Appeal for DAE Community Response Vehicle: Larry 2 for Ukraine

PROJECT: to supply a Disaster Aid Europe Community Response Vehicle for Ukraine.

This vehicle will be registered, insured and owned by DAEurope with help from other Rotary Clubs, Disaster Aid organizations and other sponsors, and then donated either again to Emergency Services Kyiv or to another appropriate organization, as recommended by our Rotarian friends in Ukraine.

Larry 2: the vehicle

Fitted with these potential items:

  • First aid kit, fold-away stretcher, blanket and sleeping bags
  • Ujeta Care water filter drinking system and 100 l clean water carrier
  • 2x boxes of 100+ hygiene packs, 50 face masks, medical gowns
  • 200 pcs tool kit set, spade and brush
  • 2x 2.5 m car side awning canvas canopy
  • Emergency lighting: tripod of rechargeable lights, hand-held flashlights
  • PPE gloves, hard hats, hi-vis vests, ropes, slings
  • Fire extinguisher and 2x fuel jerry cans (empty)

Purpose: to provide support, water filtration and other help to communities in times of need, and to provide assistance and aid at times of natural disasters, floods and power shortages. The 4×4 capabilities will help communities in remote locations and in all terrain.

Why Larry 2? The story of Larry 1

In October 2023, a similar vehicle with similar content, nicknamed Larry 1, was taken to Ukraine from Prague by volunteers and donated to Emergency Services Kyiv.

  • RC Neuss (Germany) and Diamond Fabrication UK made this equipped support vehicle possible; it was brought from the UK to Prague.
  • October 2023: two Czech volunteers from RC Pardubice drove the vehicle to Kyiv.
  • 19 October 2023: handover to Emergency Services Kyiv for use in local communities.

Help earthquake survivors in Myanmar & Thailand Your Help is Needed!

Recent earthquakes in Myanmar & Thailand: communities have been devastated, thousands are in desperate need of help. Together with Disaster Aid Australia and Disaster Aid Thailand – projects of Rotary Clubs worldwide – Disaster Aid Europe is providing vital support to those affected. Specifically, we have recently visited Northern Thailand where Myanmar evacuees, mainly children, have found refuge. These earthquakes registering magnitudes of 6.0+, have caused widespread destruction to homes, schools, infrastructure. Families are now homeless, children without parents, lacking access to clean water, food, and many injured require medical care.

Together we are helping survivors to rebuild their lives. Beyond immediate needs of clean drinking water and shelter, rebuilding communities begins. Our APPEAL is focused on working with local organisations to deliver essential supplies to those in need, mainly children. This includes the provision of clean drinking water.

Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine: Ujeta Care water filters, hygiene packs, generators…

Disaster Aid Europe z.s. is seeking donations to provide humanitarian aid (water filters, hygiene packs, generators) to the Ukraine, some of which we have taken in our trailer across the Slovak/Ukrainian border to local Rotarians in Uzhgorod, Ukraine for further inland transport. Other aid has been sent direct to Kosice (RC Kosice Classic) for RC Uzhgorod Skala Rotarians to collect to take to Ukraine, and then to Kharkiv for local distribution by RC Kharkiv Multinational. Please donate generously.

Help fight the Cholera Epidemic in Zambia!

The cholera outbreak in Zambia began in October 2023 with a surge in cases since January 2024; over 19,000 cases with over 700 deaths.

Since cholera is linked to the absorption of contaminated water or food, access to clean drinking water is essential to stem its spread.

It is important to highlight that cholera is a preventable disease. Good access to clean water, and proper sanitation infrastructure and hygiene measures (focus on WASH: Water and Sanitation, Hygiene) reduce the likelihood of cholera outbreaks. Awareness and prevention through community networks are as essential as medical care.

Disaster Aid Europe z.s is helping & supporting Lusaka Rotary Clubs in their efforts to fight this outbreak, by focusing on the provision of clean drinking water technologies and WASH training & workshops.

Disaster Aid Europe Beirut Appeal

Disaster Aid Europe’s mission is to assist Lebanese Rotary & Rotaract Clubs in helping and supporting the rebuilding of communities severely affected by the 4th August 2020 explosion in Beirut. 300,000 homes were destroyed causing homelessness and many have homes with no windows and doors as well as other damage.

Disaster Aid Europe Croatia Appeal

On December 29th, 2020, the Croatian towns of Petrinja, Sisak, and Glina (some 40kms from Zagreb) and surrounding villages were hit by a 6.2 earthquake, damaging buildings, roads, infrastructure, and claiming several lives. People have lost their homes, places of work and their businesses.
